Abstract

Photophobia and glare – the use of filter glasses

This presentation will cover det the basic of what filter lenses are. Then contrast, comfort and protection will be discussed in relation to filters. A summary of the classical medical filters and witch is most preferred for different diagnosis will be shown. Then the new comfort filters for neuro visual problems will be presented and some hint on how to try them out will be discussed. In the end some typical cases will be presented and some scientific papers on filters will be discussed.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr Jorgen Gustafsson received a licence in optometry 1978. After some years of private practice he worked for more than 16 years at the government Low Vision Clinic at the Ophthalmology Department in Jönköping, Sweden. During this time he was involved in education in the field of low vision in Scandinavia and some countries in Europe. In 2004 he received a PhD in optometric rehabilitation at Lund University. The year after he became a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, FAAO.

From 2006 to 2013 he was employedas Associate Professor at the Department of optometry on Linnaeus University, Sweden. Then he worked as senior product advisor at the specialty optic lab Multilens, Sweden until March this year. At present he holds a small position as Professor II at University of South East Norway, at the Department of Optometry and Visual Science in Kongsberg.
